Builders in north Hampshire

Builders in Basingstoke,Hook, Winchester and Tadley

Extensions, loft and garage conversions, home renovations, refurbishments, structural alterations and brickwork. One team from the footings to the final coat, with nearly twenty years on the tools behind it.

Who we are

The groundwork everything else in the house is built on.

Shape Create & Build is a Hampshire building firm with nearly 20 years on the tools behind it. We are local, we turn up when we say we will, and we are easy to have around the house while the work is going on. One team covers the whole job, so there is one number to ring and nobody standing about waiting on somebody else.

Groundwork, brickwork, carpentry, plastering, electrics and plumbing are all ours. Our yard is on Calleva Park in Aldermaston, which puts Basingstoke, Hook, Winchester, Fleet and Tadley all within an easy run of the van.

From footings to final coat

Before and after

The difference, side by side.

Two entrances we rebuilt from the ground up. Drag the handle across to see the same house before we started and after we finished.

Basingstoke

Front entrance, porch and path

The front of a red brick house before the work: a dark front door under a white columned porch with a triangular pediment, worn grey concrete steps and a cracked slab path between thin borders
The same house after the work: a sage green front door under a new pitched porch canopy with a brick arch over it, new limestone steps and path with a brick soldier-course edge, planters either side of the door and a level lawn
BeforeAfter
The old columned porch taken off and replaced with a pitched canopy over a brick arch, a new front door, and the whole approach rebuilt — limestone steps and paving with a brick soldier-course edge, the borders replanted and the lawn levelled and returfed. Same house, same brickwork, completely different arrival.

North Hampshire

Oak-framed porch

A white rendered cottage before the work, with a small shallow-pitched porch in poor condition over a green plank door, and boards laid across the lawn to protect it
The same cottage after the work, with a new green oak porch on red brick dwarf walls, a pitched slate roof, a slate floor and a new grey front door
BeforeAfter
The failing porch taken off and replaced with a green oak frame on red brick dwarf walls, a pitched slate roof to match the cottage, and a slate floor laid through to a level threshold. Built to look as though it had always been part of the cottage rather than added to it.

In house

Six trades under one roof.

It is the reason a job keeps moving when the weather turns, or when a wall comes down and shows us something nobody expected.

How a job runs

Four stages, start to finish.

At each one you will know who is coming, what is happening and roughly how long it is going to take.

  1. 01

    Initial consultation

We come out, look at the house, listen to what you want and tell you honestly whether it will work and roughly what it costs.

  2. 02

    Design and planning

Layout, materials and drawings. We deal with planning and building control so you are not chasing the council.

  3. 03

    Construction

One team on site, a start date that means something, and the site sheeted and swept at the end of each day.

  4. 04

    Completion and review

We walk the job with you, sort the snags there and then, and hand over a finished room rather than a list.

Where we work

Areas we cover.

Our yard sits on Calleva Park in Aldermaston, so everything listed here is a short run from it.

  • Basingstoke

Basingstoke grew fast and it grew in phases, so the town is really a dozen different building jobs wearing one postcode.

  • Hook

Hook is a village that became a commuter town when the M3 and the Waterloo line arrived, and the building stock tells that story in three clear layers.

  • Winchester

Winchester is the most heavily protected place we work in, and that changes the job before a single brick is laid.

  • Tadley

Tadley is on our doorstep — the yard is at Calleva Park, the other side of the Aldermaston boundary — and it is where we have been busiest this year.

  • Fleet

Fleet is a well-kept commuter town with a housing stock that rewards being extended properly.

  • Aldermaston

Aldermaston is where we are based. Our unit is at Calleva Park, and a good share of our work has come from within a few miles of it.

Questions

Common questions.

Extensions in Tadley, brickwork in Winchester or a loft in Basingstoke. If the answer is not here, ring 07502 002750 and ask.

Which areas do you cover?

We work across Basingstoke, Hook, Winchester, Tadley, Fleet and Aldermaston, plus the villages around them. Our yard is on Calleva Park in Aldermaston, so most of north Hampshire is a short run for us.

How long have you been building?

Nearly twenty years on the tools. Shape Create & Build Ltd was registered in 2021 (company number 13415917) and is based at Unit 1 Andromeda House, Calleva Park, Aldermaston.

Do you handle planning and building regulations?

Yes. We deal with the drawings, the planning application where one is needed, and building control inspections and sign-off, so you are not chasing the council between jobs.

Will you match the brickwork on my extension?

That is usually the first thing we look at. We source brick, bond and mortar colour to match what is already there, because a mismatched extension is obvious from the pavement.

Can we stay in the house while you work?

In most cases, yes. We sheet up, keep the dust down and sweep the site at the end of every day. Our customers regularly mention the tidying up, which tells you how often it does not happen elsewhere.

How do you price a job?

We come out, look at the property and put a written quote together with the costs set out line by line. No obligation, and no charge for the visit.
